Raised Dog Food Bowls

Raised Dog Food Bowls
One of the best purchases I’ve made for my Golden Lab Toby are his raised dog food bowls. In a debate of regular dog bowls vs. raised dog bowls, there are some underlying health benefits of elevated options that may not be so easy to see in the first place.

Elevated dog bowls can provide a number of benefits for you and your pup. Some of these advantages are thought to offer health benefits, while others simply make your life easier. Let me show you the three I liked best and why I chose the one I did.

Before I do that, let me just paint a picture for you. It’s one that I’m sure you’ve possibly run into before, too.

The other day around mealtime, I opened up the pantry door to grab my Toby's food like I normally do. Everything seemed fine, and he was eating like he normally does, but I did notice something a little different this time around. As he is an older dog, he was starting to struggle with arthritis pain and mobility issues in his joints,
and that he was becoming more and more hesitant to lean down to eat from his regular bowl.

I ended up speaking to my local veterinarian and he told me this was typical for older dogs, and recommended maybe purchasing a raised food bowl. I had never thought of raising his dog food bowl. I always thought Toby was fine eating out of his regular bowl like he normally does.

It's obvious now why elevated food bowls are good for large breed dogs. Vets recommend these types of feeders for larger dogs because it elevates the food to their level, helping them to eat more comfortable. There’s a lot of strain on a larger dog to bend to reach a bowl way down on the ground.

All that bending down can end up putting a lot of wear-and-tear on the dog’s shoulders and neck. Since Toby already had pre-existing arthritis, an elevated food bowl was easier for him. An older dog won't have to bend down to eat which is a relief for a dog that is experiencing early stages of arthritic pain, and it might even help prevent arthritis from setting in in younger dogs as well.

Now, on to the three styles that I think are the best.
